About this PositionWe are looking for an Accountant to join our Finance Department.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the month-end and quarter-end closing process including posting of accruals and adjusting journal entries
  • Perform data reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy of information received from different sources on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly and quarterly Blackline reconciliations, ensure timely follow-up and resolution of outstanding items
  • Prepare and submit monthly expense variance analysis for all the entities as well as at the consolidated level
  • Coordinate the receipt of explanations from cost center leaders for getting explanations related to variances above threshold
  • Respond to enquiries from cost center leaders
  • Prepare quarterly claims reconciliation and mortality report
  • Prepare various tax related information and assist in the preparation of year -end income tax provisions and tax returns of Primerica’s Canadian entities
  • Assist in reconciling notices of assessment and other tax related information
  • Review accounts payable invoices report to ensure various jurisdictional sales tax have been captured accurately
  • Assist in handling various tax matters related to segregated funds and mutual funds when needed
  • Assist in the preparation of various statutory and regulatory reports, returns and statements
  • Prepare Statistics Canada surveys and other supporting schedules related to life insurance business
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma preferably in accounting. Pursing CPA or other local or international accounting qualification an asset
  • A minimum of two years financial accounting experience preferably in financial services company
  • Knowledge of cost accounting and prior experience of performing variance analysis is preferable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
  • Flexible to work in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Results-driven and highly detail-oriented
  • Proficient in MS Office including advanced Excel skills
