Hitachi Rail, a rail technology and transportation systems company, has announced plans to establish a new Canadian headquarters in Toronto that will serve as its global Communications-Based Train Control Competence Centre to provide engineering and technical expertise for projects around the world.

On Thursday, Hitachi reported that the announcement follows a $100 million CAD commitment to develop its SelTrac G9 rail signaling technology at the new site. The next-generation system will integrate artificial intelligence and 5G connectivity to improve efficiency and support more sustainable subway networks.

The 125,000-square-foot facility will be located at Consilium Place and will span five and a half floors to accommodate more than 1,000 employees and 100 paid interns.

The facility is scheduled to officially open in summer 2026.
