The video game industry has a substantial presence in Canada. The country has more than 900 video game studios, the majority of which are located in Ontario, according to the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. The province’s capital city is home to studios developing games for a variety of platforms. We’ve compiled a list of some of the top gaming companies in Toronto publishing titles are enjoyed by players around the world.

Top Gaming Companies in Toronto

Guru Studio is an entertainment company known for developing and producing family-friendly shows like PAW Patrol, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, and Mecha Builders, an animated spinoff of Sesame Street. It also creates gaming entertainment, such as Fracter, a puzzle games for mobile devices. Headquartered in Toronto, the company says it’s always looking for top talent to join its team.  

 

Torn Banner Studios is the independent video game company behind Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and Chivalry 2, which the company calls “a multiplayer first-person slasher inspired by medieval movie battles.” The company is based in Toronto. 

 

Tms claims to unite technology, marketing and sourcing to drive digital transformation. Though the company’s portfolio showcases a wide range of companies, tms frequently partners with gaming companies and organizations like The Mobies, Full Squad Gaming and Tribe Gaming. It has nine offices worldwide, including one in Toronto. 

 

Gameloft is a game developer and publisher that creates content across digital platforms. It operates 18 development studios around the world, which focus largely on mobile games such as March of Empires and Disney Magic Kingdoms. The company says its games see approximately 1.5 million downloads each day.

 

Ubisoft is a gaming company responsible for iconic franchises including Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s video game series. Its games are played across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, VR and mobile platforms. The company offers players a premium subscription service called Ubisoft+ that gives them access to the company’s full library.

 

Prodigy Education aims to empower students to love learning by combining homework and playtime through gameplay. With a focus on math and English, the platform is used by not only millions of students but also by teachers and parents to access and analyze student performance.

 

Founded in 1998 in Shenzhen, China, Tencent leverages its platforms Weixin and QQ to connect millions of internet users, including brands and their consumers, and scale their growth. Tencent owns or has stakes in many of the world’s top gaming companies, including Riot Games. In addition to its Chinese office, the company operates additional offices in the United States and Canada. 

 

Jam City is an entertainment company that makes mobile games. The company’s lineup of games includes titles that incorporate characters and story lines from Disney, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. One of its signature products is the RPG Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, which has over 135 million installs.

 

Independent gaming development studio Capybara Games has been in business for two decades, producing award-winning games for PC, console and mobile platforms. It has published titles like Grindstone, Super Time Force, Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery and BELOW.

 

Big Viking Games is an independent game studio that focuses on mobile and social media games. The company operates out of two studios in Toronto and London, Ontario. As an early adopter of HTML5 games, Big Viking Games is behind the popular titles FishWorld and YoWorld. It offers games on iOs, Android and Facebook that have been played by millions.
