The Legal Counsel will provide effective legal services for Samsung Electronics Canada and be part of a collaborative and supportive legal team.
In this role, you will work on a wide range of marketing and advertising, corporate/commercial, and compliance matters to support innovative initiatives and to meet the day-to-day needs of various business divisions.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide general legal advice to Samsung Electronics Canada as requested by the General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel
  • Negotiate and draft a variety of different contracts, and advise the business of the legal risks
  • Review advertising and marketing materials for Samsung Electronics
  • Supervise and support junior lawyers and articling students on small claims court matters, and support the General Counsel with various litigation matters, including working with outside counsel on class actions
  • Assist General Counsel with product safety and regulatory matters including regulatory filings, regulatory responses and ad hoc requests
  • Conduct risk assessments, and develop risk management and mitigation strategies in both legal and compliance areas
  • Conduct corporate compliance investigations and advise on employment law matters
  • Provide support for additional corporate and commercial matters as required

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements:

Education:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Law (LLB) program
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or the law society of another Canadian province

Experience:

  • 3 to 6 years of relevant experience practicing law at a law firm or in-house corporate environment
  • Experience with advising on privacy and advertisement laws
  • Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple and efficient way
  • High degree of ethics and integrity, and ability to inspire confidence, trust, and respect of key stakeholders
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to establish and focus on key priorities while taking a hands-on approach to managing issues and contributing to projects and transactions
